Korean skincare has been trending for some time now thanks to the luminous glowing skin many people achieve as a result. You may have heard that following a Korean skincare routine includes 10 steps which can be a daunting process to have to go through at the end of a tiring day.
You’ll be happy to learn that these 10 steps are very quick and that you won’t need each step every single time you go through your Korean skincare routine, though you may find the process so relaxing that you take the time to do it all or even add a step or two to really pamper yourself.
Read our article on why your skin will love a Korean skincare routine and let’s go through the steps together to help you understand just what’s in this entire shebang.
As we go through each step, you’ll realize that not all of them are completely necessary each time. The first step for example can be skipped in the morning if you did all the necessary steps the previous night.
The routine begins with an oil cleanser that’s meant to break down all the makeup, dirt, and grime from your day. This leaves you with a fresh face free of makeup so you can tackle your pores.
Your water-based cleanser will clean out your pores and remove any traces of makeup and dirt left behind by the oil cleanser. This is why it’s important to double cleanse at the end of the day but may not be necessary for the morning.
Another step that isn’t necessary each time you go through the entire routine is exfoliation. Using a gentle chemical exfoliant every other day or once per week helps to reveal your smoothest, freshest supple skin.
Your toner is meant to remove any residue left from your cleansers and prep your skin for the next steps. This helps to increase the absorption of the remaining steps.
These are light water-based versions of a serum that’s meant to hydrate the skin, helping it to again be ready for the treatments to follow.
Now it’s time to treat your skin’s current conditions with a selection of serums, ampoules, vitamins, or other treatments as needed. This step changes from time to time depending on the season and what’s currently going on with your skin.
Using (sheet) masks is another step that may not be necessary every single time you go through your Korean skincare routine. (Sheet) masks infuse a deep level of moisture to your skin to luxuriously hydrate and leave it with that sought-after luminous glow.
The skin around your eyes is very delicate and needs extra protection and treatment to help it stay soft and hydrated. Your eye cream will help you look awake and refreshed when applied consistently.
Here’s a step you never want to skip. You want to seal in all the wonderful ingredients you just added to your face with a good-quality moisturizer. At night you may even opt for a sleep mask to deeply hydrate your skin and help rid it of any impurities.
This is a mandatory step each morning. The sun is quite damaging to the skin as you already know. Never skip this step in the morning.
As you can see, your routine can be as little as 5 steps depending on the time of day and what your skin currently needs. Each step is meant to deeply nourish your skin to reveal your best, dewy face each day.
